Statistics Canada’s Crime Severity Index is a tool used to measure annual changes in the level of severity of crime across the country. As Canada’s national statistical office, Statistics Canada wanted to communicate how the tool works to the Canadian general public. It’s often easier to grasp complex subject matter through a character-based story, which is why this animated explainer video focuses on a fictional character and her family as they consider crime levels when moving to a new city.
